Mission
FOCUS is a faith-based community organization that develops leaders and empowers people to take democratic action in order to improve the quality of life for families in Orange County.
Since its founding in 1995, FOCUS has generated more than $30 million in community improvements. Our process of community organization works and creates positive, concrete changes in communities all across Orange County. We have measured outcomes of success as a community organization, and are proud to deliver a powerful return on investment. For example, FOCUS secured: • Education: $2.3 million annually to fund after-school programs in all Orange County middle schools; $1.5 million additional funding for Orange County Head Start; • Parks & Recreation: $20 million for new parks and protection of environmentally sensitive land, and $5 million for new recreation programs; • Juvenile Probation: $1.5 million annually to expand the Juvenile Arrest and Monitoring (JAM) program, reducing repeat offenders by 85%; • Safety: Increased police protection; new school crossing for Evans High School; pedestrian island, sidewalks, flashing lights, and additional signs in front of Liberty Middle School; installation of 7 new fire hydrants in Rio Grande Terrace community; • Housing: Commitment by Orange County Mayor assist more families to own a home by holding more housing fairs, providing more one on one counseling, and ensuring that all workers have access to assistance; • Health Care: Improvements in State to Florida's online program to enroll more children KidCare health insurance.
